STILLWELL SHIELD CAMPING COMPETITION 2006

The Stilwell Shield Camping and Doug Mason Cooking Competitions were held at Chalfont Heights Scout Camp over the weekend of the 8 & 9 April 2006. The Patrols who entered were Harefield, Harmondsworth, Ickenham, Perseverance and 2nd Uxbridge. As well as the normal camping duties, the Scouts were given a strange tent to erect, make a short film, and make and use a stretcher. We had the seasonal April showers, the camp fire on the Saturday evening was delayed by a heavy shower, during the night we had a heavy frost, then Sunday afternoon we had a hail shower and we all had to put away wet tents.

It seemed much easier back at the Scout HQ! One of the Leaders helping to judge keeps a watchful eye.
Looks like this Patrol are not sure where to start. 2nd Uxbridge get busy on one of their tasks watched by the DC.
The Doug Mason and Stilwell Shield trophies. A Patrol busy putting up their deck chair, I mean strange tent.
These two Patrols are busy making their stretchers..... ....even if they do look like ladders.
Time to get ready for the Doug Mason cooking competition..... ....which has to be cooked over an open fire.
This Patrol certainly knows how to light a fire! A rather damp camp fire and singing session on Saturday evening.
Well done and thanks to all the Leaders who helped to run the event and Mike Day who organised everything. A pensive Patrol waiting for the presentation.

The Doug Mason Cooking Competition trophy was won by Perseverance, who beat 1st Ickenham by 1 point. 1st Ickenham were the winners of the Stilwell Shield Camping competition, second 2nd Uxbridge and third Perseverance.

Thanks go to Pete & Liz Swatton, Tony Wolff, Paul Bristow, and our District Commissioner Emile Sanguy and the other leaders who we were able to persuade to help mark the Stilwell Shield Competition.

I hope that we will have more entries in next year’s competition.
